Up North,

about 12 kilometers from Ilaam bazaar and then a couple of kilometers off-road toward the right side of the highway will take you to Jasbire village. A very small village with a population of about 150-something households scattered from one corner to another within a huge hilly landscape of Jasbire will surely take you back in time. It’s like a medieval period. The village is popular for the teas grown and produced here, produced from Jasbire Chiya Udhyog.

Story of Jasbire Tea

starts with the name Sharad Subba. And Sharad’s journey and his version of Specialty Tea starts with Sonam Paljor Lama, his mentor, and advisor. Sharad was already producing standard Black Teas for nine years in Mai Tea Factory before he met Sonam P Lama in Sandakphu Tea Factory. When Sharad met Sonam, the new wave of orthodox tea was on the surface among small farmers in Nepal with the support of Denmark based agro-project UNNATI. And with the new wave, Sharad founded Jasbire to produce only Specialty Teas. Sharad holds a high opinion for Sonam for everything he learned from him, the maestro from Darjeeling. But the art of tea is so deep that Sharad thinks that he has yet to master it; it is an endless journey in the process. It has been 5 years now, teas from Jasbire are in demand in the USA, France, Denmark and now we are introducing them to Australia.

Jasbire is certified organic by CERES under the guidelines and certifications from USDA and JAS.
